Sultana is a School Design Partner with Transcend, supporting schools along their redesign journeys to build equitable experiences and outcomes for all students. Prior to joining Transcend, Sultana spent 17 years as a teacher, school leader, and principal coach in the pursuit of transformational teaching and learning for kids and adults alike.
Sultana started her education journey as a first grade teacher in the Bronx, and fell in love with teaching. Education is at its heart, a liberatory exercise. That is what Sultana carried with her as she became a founding teacher at Leadership Prep Charter School in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, and then Dean of Students, and eventually Principal for six years. During her tenure at Leadership Prep, student learning grew exponentially and the school was in the top 10% of schools in the state for ELA and Math achievement on the Common Core assessments.
Most recently, Sultana was Dean of the National Principals Academy Fellowship at Relay Graduate School of Education, supporting hundreds of diverse leaders from across the country to hone their instructional leadership skills in service of building stronger outcomes and experiences for students. Sultana feels so fortunate to have learned so much from the phenomenal educators around the country who are doing the deep and important work of building schools where all students can achieve beyond our wildest dreams. In her spare time, you can find Sultana reading, running, and baking healthy-ish treats alongside her husband and two sons in New York.
