Shari Lawrence (Black; she/her/hers) is an experienced educator and facilitator living in Los Angeles. She began her career in education as an New York City public school teacher and has continued working in the field to build a future of school where Black, Indigenous, and young people of color are affirmed and can thrive. She currently works at Transcend where she designs and facilitates learning experiences that inspire and build the skill necessary to propel communities forward on their design journeys to reimagine school. Her approach to school design and facilitation focuses on building experiences that center equity and cultivate imagination, community, joy, and healing. She is also a wife, adventurer, auntie, yogi, brunch-goer, life-long learner, and dog and plant mom.
Shari holds a Masters of Arts in Education and Politics from Teachers College, Columbia University, a Masters of Science in Teaching Urban Adolescents with Disabilities from Long Island University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from New York University.
