Sarah Nager
Sarah is a Partner of Institute Design at Transcend. Prior to joining Transcend, Sarah spent 15 years as a teacher, school leader, leadership coach, and curriculum leader.
Sarah started her career in education as a special education teacher in the Bronx, where she began developing her passion for fostering dynamic learning environments. This passion led Sarah to Ocean Hill Collegiate, part of the Uncommon Schools charter network, where she worked as a founding 6th grade ELA teacher and instructional leader. Eager to hone her skills as a school and school system leader, Sarah became the founding Dean of Curriculum and Instruction at Leadership Prep Ocean Hill Middle Academy and then the Uncommon Schools Director of Literacy, supporting hundreds of teachers and school leaders across the Uncommon Schools network.
After leaving New York City, Sarah helped found and ultimately lead the ELA division of Achievement First Accelerate, a school partnership program that supported schools across the nation in their implementation of a rigorous, culturally responsive curriculum and an equitable instructional leadership model. Most recently, Sarah was the Director of ELA at Open Up Resources, where she spearheaded the development of openly accessible curriculum, training, and resources for schools. Sarah feels so fortunate to have learned with and from so many phenomenal educators who are ensuring every student has access to an education that unlocks their full potential.
Sarah earned her B.A.in Gender Studies and Psychology from Barnard College and her M.A. in Special and General Education from Hunter College. She is pursuing her Doctorate in Education at Northeastern University. Sarah lives outside Boston with her husband and toddler. In her spare time, she enjoys family dance parties, cooking and general food appreciation, creative writing, and spirited reality television analysis.
