Monica is thrilled to be a part of the Transcend team as the Portfolio Director of Institute. Prior to joining Transcend, Monica worked as a first grade and fourth grade teacher in the integrated co-teaching setting at a public charter school in Brooklyn, New York. She also worked at an education nonprofit as a program manager and instructional coach. During this time Monica supported a portfolio of schools in increasing college access for High Schoolers via equitable SAT and ACT preparation. During this time Monica kept her pursuit of educational equity front and center by both practicing and coaching others to hold high expectations for all students, and to cultivate student-centered learning practices. Recently, she was proud to be promoted to a Grade Team Lead which allowed her to support her teaching colleagues in best practices for holistic and culturally responsive teaching and learning.
Monica obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in American Literature and Civic Engagement from Hofstra University. Additionally, Monica holds a Masters of Science in Education Policy from Hunter College where she wrote her Capstone Thesis on implementing Culturally Responsive Pedagogy in classrooms. During this time her essay on disproportionality in special education was published in the Hunter College Urban Review. When not working, Monica loves to go for hikes upstate, enjoy the beach, have good meals with good people, and travel to new places.
