Freddy Gonzalez Joins Transcend as Head of Transcend Institute
Transcend is thrilled to welcome Freddy Gonzalez to our team. Freddy joins as head of Transcend Institute. In this role, he is responsible for spearheading the vision and strategy for a world-class training and development platform that will build the capacity of education innovators across the country to lead, participate in, and support successful school design journeys.
Freddy shared the following about his excitement to join Transcend: “Affirming, rigorous, and thoughtful schools ensure every child will learn and thrive. I’m excited and honored to join the talented Transend team to support schools and communities across the country in creating systems-level, long-lasting, equity-focused adjustments that will help every child achieve their dreams. Schools are ever-changing environments and there is never one easy solution to address challenges. However, the research-based, context-conscious strategies that Transcend applies allow leaders to problem solve and create innovative change.”
Prior to his new role at Transcend, Freddy spent more than 17 years at KIPP as a teacher, then principal, and eventually network-wide leader. Most recently, he was the chief academic and talent systems officer at the KIPP Foundation, where he led K-8 Academics and the Network Talent Teams. While at the KIPP Foundation, he helped grow the network from 60,000 to 120,000+ students. Through the KIPP School Leadership Programs (KSLP) cohorts and leadership coaching, he supported the development of over 1,100 leaders and helped open nearly 100 new KIPP schools.
During his seven years as a principal, KIPP Austin College Prep earned “Recognized” or “Exemplary” state ratings and distinctions in all possible categories. Prior to his time at KIPP, Freddy was the lead counselor with Settlement College Readiness Program in New York City where he supervised the college application process for students at schools in Harlem, East Harlem, and the South Bronx.
Freddy is currently on the board of EdFuel, National Fellowship for Black and Latino Male Educators, and on the advisory board for Greenhouse E3. He’s a proud first-generation college student who earned his master’s degree from New York University’s Steinhardt School of Education, and his bachelor’s degree from Brown University. Freddy lives in Austin, Texas.
Freddy’s extensive experience leading and growing school systems and fueling the work toward equitable, extraordinary learning environments will be a tremendous asset for Transcend as we launch the Transcend Institute. Please join us in warmly welcoming him to our organization.
