Out-of-School Programs
Learning experiences don’t just take place during school hours. They also happen in supplemental programs that take place after school, on the weekends, during the summer, or on school breaks, and can feature innovative designs that reflect the latest science on what young people need to learn and thrive. Programs like Ambassador Academy and Convivir demonstrate how these out-of-school programs can offer valuable learning that inspire and inform in-school experiences.
Ambassador Foundation (Denver, CO)
The Ambassador Foundation provides whole-child support and sets high expectations as students navigate higher education and planning for their futures. Through college advising, leadership development, and peer networking programs, the organization guides students from the start of the application process through graduation, helping them explore college and scholarship opportunities, visit campuses, apply, and manage enrollment requirements. When additional support is needed, the Ambassador Foundation connects students and families with resources like social workers, school counselors, and legal aid. All programming is relevant and holistic, ensuring that all students experience unlimited opportunities and support to go after their goals.
Convivir Colorado (Denver, CO)
Convivir Colorado fosters students’ out-of-school development through five mutually reinforcing programs designed to provide celebratory, community-centered experiences that inspire agency and empowerment. In Convivir’s Summer Program, for example, immigrant, refugee, and first-generation students in 6th through 12th grades explore the impact of immigration on themselves and their communities. They then collaborate on a community art project, turning their learning into collective action.
